I love dark cherry wood furniture. When I was shopping for my living room I wanted a modern wall unit in a dark cherry wood. I thought I would be able to just go out and buy one. Not the easiest task I had discovered. Maybe my idea of modern is not in line with furniture manufactures but I continued to search for my vision. Then I decided to look beyond my local retailers and search the internet for some options. I remember the moment, I was scrolling thru pictures on line and their it was…the wall unit I had always wanted.

Vancouver History – The warehouse that was also a dance hall
Even the older residents of Vancouver may not know that of all places, one of the hottest spots of Vancouver in the 1930’s was actually a warehouse. In 1932, the Ferguson brothers, three Irish immigrants that started one of the earliest Vancouver moving companies in the early 1910’s and operated it through the Great Depression with great success, bought the Orange Hall at 22nd and Marine Drive and turned it into a furniture warehouse, bus stop, coal drop, and general storage. But in Friday and Saturday night, the warehouse would be open for dances on a regular basis!

I went to Europe for a vacation. I wanted get an up close view of the countries I visited so I decided to go on bicycling tours. I will admit that I was a little (or a lot) over weight but I never much thought about that. The vacation was only 6 weeks long but I made an amazing discovery when it was over. You’re watching out for rocks, high reefs and jellyfish and surfboards that have lost their owners. (Another piece of etiquette advice: use surfboard ankle leashes) This is just one more thing to look out for. Good surfing takes awareness of every thing at every moment. Not easy.

Our banks have a lot of personal information about their customers saved into their computers. How is this data protected? I am sure they must have some procedures, including password protection, to keep people from getting this information when they shouldn’t, but what happens when the bank needs to update their equipment and gets new computers? What does the bank do with all the old computers, and more importantly the hard drives? Some people know how to get data from hard drives, even when you think all the data has been erased. Do they have some method of secure hard data drive destruction so this can’t happen?

My aunt in Canada is visiting us this year. It’s been a while since she left. She married a Canadian citizen and got her through the Spouse Visas. She is lucky she married a good man based on her emails and letters. She mentioned nothing but praises for her husband. So we are all excited to see my aunt again and her husband. She used to look after us when we were little and when she was still single. I hope she still remembers us, now that we are all much older and looks a lot different.
