The new hobby my mom has started

My mother is one of those mothers that is into crafts. She is always putting things together and making little knick knacks. This trait has passed on down to my sisters as they are into this stuff too. Last week my mom went to her first Scrapbook class and found a new kind of hobby. She liked her class so much that she has started to do a lot of scrap booking. Last night she took my sisters with her to a hobby store to pick up some Scrapbook Supplies. My mom wants to make a special scrapbook for everybody in the house.

A Huge Source of Free Vintage Clipart Images

I recently found a free e-book that has long lists of free vintage clipart images by category. It’s called the Free Clip Art Sourcebook and I’ve found it to be very helpful. All the clip art and greeting cards in it are free, so all of a sudden I have access to a huge number of images for every holiday and season, and for many subjects, such as football, weddings and engagements, flowers, and even vintage seed packets. It’s been so much fun going through the book and looking at all the art. I’ve even used some of the vintage greeting cards to create handmade cards for friends.

Retro Art and Marilyn

Every five years I redecorate various rooms of my house.  When it came time to turn our rec room into a home theater, I knew I wanted to have posters of movie stars on the walls.  But when my husband complained about the lack of color in the whole scheme, I got a great idea:  I would do the room in retro and use the bright colors of Andy Warhol Marilyn Monroe Prints as the center point.  I had originally planned to use posters of old movies like “Gone With The Wind” and “Star Wars”.  However, when I saw these colorful prints I was hooked.  They went perfect with the retro dinette set in the home theater.

House Warming Gift Ideas

Our good friends Jim and Lisa just moved into a new house.  They had been living in this little shell of a house for over a decade so we were almost as estatic as they were when they finally bought a much bigger, nicely finished new home.

Because we are such good friends we wanted to help them with a few new things for their new home.  And at Eye Candy Gift we found a number of great housewarming gifts.  For example, Jim loves a good bottle of wine but Lisa doesn’t.  So we found a great wine keeper/pourer for Jim.  And it’s beautifully crafted in a silver finish and we got it initialed.   Now how cool it that - all for less than $25.

How to Care for Bass Guitars

After finding the best Bass Guitars that perfectly suits your preference, now is the time to know how to properly care for bass guitars. By saying properly we mean that you should know how to exactly care for bass guitars and not simply clean and maintain it any way you know how.

Lacquer is the most common type of varnish used to clean and maintain the glow of bass guitars. It should be applied regularly to your bass guitar with the use of flannel cloth.

The type of care your bass guitars require will depend on its condition. If your bass guitar is consistently maintained, chances are you wouldn’t need to clean that often or that thoroughly. However if it has been years since you last cared for you bass guitar, you might need to exert more effort to treat its cracks, damages and the like if there are any.

A Barn In The Mountains

I have never figured out what it is that draws me to photograph old barns.  I have several in my portfolio collection from Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains.  The first photo that I ever took was the one I call “Hedrick’s Barn”.  It sits directly behind the motel owned by Mr. Hedrick that my wife and I stay at when we travel to the Smokies.  I awoke one morning early and went out on the balcony and it was very foggy.  The barn was enveloped in the fog and appeared to take on a mystical and moody look.  I grabbed my camera and headed out to see if I could capture that special moment before the fog lifted.  I got soaking wet up to my knees because of the morning dew but I got the picture I wanted.

An Overview of Pre-Classical Period

The Classical Period in Western music occurred from about 1730 to 1820, but there was considerable overlap and transition between these periods of time, with preceding and following periods.  This is true for all musical eras. Hence, the late works by Beethoven falls into Romantic Period, even though he was regarded as a Classical Period composer.  Before Classical Period reached its full maturity in the hands of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, the period before it, from about 1730 to 1770, was generally called pre-Classical period.

In the middle of 18th-century, Europe began to move to a new style in architecture, literature and the arts, generally known as Classicism, which is the aesthetic attitudes and principles based on the culture, art and literature of ancient Greece and Rome, and characterized by emphasis on form, balance, clarity, serenity, and restrained emotion.  As a result, the musical world too was affected.  The most obvious manifestation was the moving away from the complex polyphonic texture of the Baroque Period, towards a simpler and clearer homophonic texture.  Since polyphonic texture was no longer favoured, but rather a single melodic line with accompaniment, there were greater emphasis on notating the dynamics and phrasing, rhythmic patterns, and contrasts of mood.  The music of this era is “lively and various, and if it lacks the intellectual gravity of the ripest Baroque and Classical styles, it has numerous attractions peculiar to itself”, manifested especially in opera, keyboard music and symphony.

Using the guitar for influence

Our next door neighbor is a single mom of a growing teenager.  He loves to play blues guitar and while she supported him at first she is now worrying that he might be getting some bad influence along the way and asked me what I thought about making him quit the guitar.  I told her I thought it was a mistake and suggested we work together to support him and his music.   I started by buying him the 50 blues guitar backing tracks and working with him on how to use them.  She found a recognized blues guitar instructor and signed him up for lessons.

Rocket Spanish Reviews and Salamanca

Good Spanish language schools in Spain you will find throughout the country, mostly in the larger cities. Many of them like Santiago de Compostela, language schools in Barcelona, Valencia and Malaga lie on the beach, some like the language schools in Madrid, the language schools in Salamanca, language schools in Granada and the language schools in Seville in the country’s interior, all of which can be learned by reading this Rocket Spanish review. These are not necessarily the worst for the Spanish language holiday. You can also find places in smaller schools, providing high quality courses in Spain and offer the participants personally.

Taking Blues Lessons

Sometimes you just need to go after a dream just to say that you tried.  That is how I felt when I decided to take blues lessons.  I love the blues guitar and I have always been fascinated by how they get the cords to give such great sounds.  I thought maybe in my own little way I could learn some blues guitar for myself.  In a lot of ways it feels good to give my mind something to concentrate on and it feels so good when I begin to understand and I get to see the logic behind how it all works.

Wrap and Rap

I was wrapping Christmas presents one year listening to Dr. Dre’s platinum CD when it occurred to me that wrap as in putting something around a present, and rap, as in telling a story with rhythm as the carrier signal into ones soul, were very similar. Wrapping is hiding a present in a happy paper that breeds and incubates curiosity a precursor to opening the gift and causes one to enjoy it more. Rap music wraps a story within with a beat and a poetic vocal structure that incubates fascination and curiosity of what their going to say next. Fascinating.
