The Mark Twain House, Hartford, CT

On your next trip to Connecticut, take the time to visit The Mark Twain House in Hartford. This fascinating National Historic Landmark is well worth seeing both from an architectural and historic perspective. It is also of course intriguing as the home of Mark Twain. The Gothic Mansion in Hartford was where Mark Twain and his family lived from 1874 until their departure in 1891. Twain published seven of his most successful novels while he lived here, including “The Prince and the Pauper,” “Tom Sawyer,” and “Huckleberry Finn.”Even if you have no interest whatsoever in architecture, you can’t help but be amused and intrigued by The Mark Twain House. Nothing seems to balance or appear symmetrical, and a huge assortment of styles and influences are evident in both the exterior and interior of Twain’s home.  Experimentation appears to be the one consistent driving force that is evident throughout the Mark Twain House. After your tour of the Mark Twain House, you can browse the fascinating new Museum that was added to the site in 2003. The galleries of this spacious Museum interpret and celebrate the life and work of Twain, his contemporaries, and the Gilded Age in general.

Grandmother From Normandy

My grandmother has told me so many fascinating things about France. Some of my family is from Normandy. She would tell me able the cafe’s and beaches that she used to hang out at when she was a teenager. She said that she stayed in so many Paris hotels when she would go in to the city to shop. It was like taking a trip far away from home, because the city was so different from the countryside in Normandy. I love hearing my grandmother’s stories, and I hope that someday I will be able to visit all of the same places she has.

My daughter’s first amusement park visit

My daughter has been on a few rides before when her dad took her to the state fair, but she has never been to an amusement park, and he is dying to take her. He has been wanting to go to the amusement park himself for a while now, so I think she is an excuse to get to go and check it out himself. He is planning to make a father daughter outing to Six Flags, so I am trying to find some Six Flags coupons to make this trip a bit more affordable since I know Six Flags can get really expensive.

How to choose the best hotels

The best hotels are not always the ones that have the highest rating or the ones that charge high rates for their rooms. There are many factors that decide the quality of the hotels. The most important of them is the hospitality that they provide. This means how much they make their guests feel at home. Other qualities to look for in a good hotel are the amenities and the luxury that the hotel provides and at what price. A hotel is also rated according to the cuisine that they provide. Food is most important for hungry travelers and a hotel providing good and tasty food is always in demand.

Travel Insurance and Common Exclusions

So….you want to take a trip and you want to be sure that you and your family are financially prepared should you become ill and/or die ? Sounds like a good idea ! Insurance for travel is a good way to take care of these concerns. There are a multitude of companies that provide this type of service. There are exclusions however and one needs to be aware of them. Here is a short listing. 1) pre-existing medical conditions such as COPD 2) participating in high risk activities such as sky diving and bungee jumping 3) injuries caused in part by alcohol and/or drug use, and 4) traveling to area of instability i.e. civil war for example. Before you purchase insurance make sure that you understand these exclusions. Not every company will have the same ones. Some high risk behaviors will be covered by certain insurance companies while others will not. Be careful and research before you pay for something that ends up a useless expense.

My Kind of Vacation

When you start thinking about going on vacation, how do you decide what you are going to do and where you are going. I use what I call my perfect night perfect day formula. First, I decide what my perfect night would be. Ultimately, it would be a fantastic night of uninterrupted sleep. That definitely does not involve camping out in a tent with the creatures of the night. I want all of the comforts that are available, including an in the room hot tub or Jacuzzi. The perfect day would involve the ocean and a gorgeously, beautiful white sandy beach. The hardest part is to decide where!

Go To Malaga

If you’re planning a Spanish vacation and don’t know which of the hotels in Spain to stay in, think about going to Malaga if you will have the inclination and opportunity to branch out your vacation to different nearby areas of the country. Malaga is close to the Costa del Sol if you wish to take a trip to the beach. It is also within a reasonable drive of cities such as Seville, in my opinion possibly the most Spanish of Spanish cities. Malaga itself also has some interesting sights, such as Pablo Picasso’s birthplace and the Santuaro de la Virgen de la Victoria church.

Familiar Names Provide Comfort Far From Home

When looking for cheap hotels in London, you don’t have to stay in a hostel. There are also standard hotels that provide a higher level of comfort and privacy for a reasonable price. Some travelers may prefer to immerse themselves in London culture as much as possible, and will choose unique lodging that blends right in with the rest of the city. Did you know, though, that if you prefer the added comfort of names you will recognize from back home, there are also familiar hotel chains to choose from, such as the Holiday Inn and Days Inn? Yes, just as McDonald’s seems to be everywhere you turn on the globe, there are familiar hotels all around as well.

The Mouse and My Spouse

My husband hates computers and has never even bothered to learn how to use a mouse.

That’s why I’m the designated computer researcher in the family and that’s how I found out we could actually afford to travel to “The House of Mouse”(Disney World).

“It’s simple”, I told him, “we’ll just use this Travelocity promotional code, book online, and have the time of our lives.

He scoffed, mumbled, and went out to work on the lawnmower. I figured that was the end of The Great Mouse Adventure.

As it turned out, a mouse saved our vacation.

That night, after I’d gone to bed, my devious husband snuck onto the computer, began clicking away with the mouse, and found the promotional code. He stunned me when he announced next morning that he’d booked the trip and we were Disney-bound.

I love mice.
