For dogs with arthritis there are several drugs available. We will cover arthritis medicine for dogs in three forms here.
One such medication is called Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan. The common brand name for this is Adequan. It is normally given as an intractable drug by directly targeting the affected area and facilitating tissue repair by binding to the damaged cartilage.
Another common medicine, Carprofen, or Rimadyl, is also popular. It relieves pain and has few side effects. It can however, harm to the liver and requires regular blood tests.
Buffered aspirin is also used in the form of Palaprin. This is a specially formulated aspirin used with dogs who have arthritis and does not cause stomach irritation as regular aspirin would.
