I just completed the final stages of finishing the probate of my Uncle Jim’s estate. It was a total nightmare. Probate laws are so complex and if you make the slightest mistake all of your family members can "come down on you like a ton of bricks". When I look back the best advice I could give is to find a probate attorney early in the process. When you find a probate attorney your family is less apt to give you a hard time. Also, when you find a probate attorney the whole process goes smoother with fewer time delays. When you find a probate attorney / lawyer the time you save may actually be equivalent to the attorney fees. If you ever are named as a executor job #1 is find a probate attorney / lawyer ASAP.
